Disadvantages of Using a Volusion Article as Your Blog
Many Volusion store owners wonder what they can do to improve their store’s visibility, and if they are open to creating new, interesting content, and connecting with their customers, we often recommend that they setup a blog. Blogs are great for increasing your visibility, and they provide your customers with a great resource to stay updated on your new products, news, and any upcoming promotions you will be offering.
If you are looking to setup a blog for your Volusion store, your best option will be to create a blog on a third-party site and link it to your Volusion store. This can be done by configuring your blog so it appears as a sub-domain of your store’s URL. Currently, the most popular options for a blogging system are WordPress or Blogger. If you’d like to learn how to setup a sub-domain and link a 3rd party blog, Volusion has a support article that gives you step-by-step instructions on how to do it.

Once you have your blog setup, you can then choose to customize your blog so it coordinates with your current Volusion store’s design. This is a good idea because it will make the transition between your store and your blog less jarring for your customers. If you are comfortable with code, you can choose to do this yourself, or contact a web development company, and they can utilize a WordPress or Blogger responsive theme and customize it so it looks like your Volusion design.
Some store owners opt to utilize a Volusion Article page as their blog. The disadvantages of this approach are that with an article page, you will not have the ability to add tags, custom URLs, keywords, and meta descriptions to each post, as you would with a WordPress blog or Blogger. Your customers will also not be able to post a comment, and you will not have as much control over the layout of the content.

To learn more about Volusion’s Article pages, here is a great Volusion support article that provides an overview of article pages, and how to create new articles and article categories.
Now that you know your options for paring a blog with your Volusion store, you’ll want to start thinking about which 3rd party solution is a good fit for you, and what you want to write about for your first blog post!
