4 Simple Tips That Will Greatly Improve User Engagement

4 Simple Tips That Will Greatly Improve User Engagement

Optimize your site for mobile

If your site still isn’t mobile friendly, now is the time to either enable a mobile template (if you are on a platform that offers this feature), or update to a responsive design. Most of your customers/visitors are still using their desktop? Doesn’t matter. Google and other popular search engines now expect your site to be mobile friendly, and if it isn’t, you are not getting the rankings you could be.

Also, what if a user does happen to visit your site on a mobile device? If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, you’re basically telling that customer that their experience doesn’t matter, which isn’t a great way to increase engagement or encourage conversions.

Update the look of your site

Now this doesn’t need to be a full redesign, or a complete re-branding, but there are a few ways you can update the look of your site without breaking the bank. If you haven’t updated your slides or banners in a while, create new graphics to feature on your site. These are great places to display call-to-actions that help direct a user to where you want them to go.

Let’s say you have a brick and mortar store. You’re going to display information that lets your customers know your hours, availability, promotions, categories, and where the checkout desk is, right? The same goes for your website. If a user lands on your homepage and doesn’t know where to go next, you’ve failed to provide clear directions.

Create new, fresh content for your pages

Some of your pages might have had the same copy for a long time. Search engines love fresh content, and updating your content from time to time shows users that you are actively managing the site, and that you are also up-to-date on what is happening in your industry.

Pro-Tip: Try to stylize the copy if you can. Search engines might not care how your paragraphs of text look, but a user will not take the time to read tons of copy, unless it is presented in an aesthetically pleasing manner.

Take a tour of your online store

Just as you might walk through your brick and mortar store to make sure your business looks presentable and is functioning at top capacity, you should do the same with your online store. Start on your homepage, and begin clicking through your most prominent links.

  1. Did your page take a while to load?

  2. Did all of your images load and display nicely on the site?

  1. Are you able to navigate the store easily?

  2. Does your contact form work?

  3. Can you select options and add a product to your cart?

Keep these questions in mind as you navigate through the store, and if at any point you see that a particular aspect of the site could be simplified, make a note of this. Chances are that several of your customers also noticed this, and will appreciate you simplifying it.

If you show your online store the love and attention you would show a brick and mortar store, this attention to detail will be apparent not only to search engines, but also to your customers!
