Prior to their redesign on ecommerce platform, BigCommerce, Ylang Ylang had a good looking site that lacked some basic functionally and usability.
It is only too easy for web designers to fret over the aesthetics, and forget that the end user needs to be able to use the “art piece” we create. A pretty but non-functional web site is sort of like having a gorgeous pair of stilettos that gives you blisters. Our goal was to create a “hybrid” stiletto, or a design that was pleasing to the eye but was still user friendly.
With that said, we scrapped some of the confusing elements in the design, and added flourishes without overcomplicating the template. The end result is a web site that is easy to navigate, visually stunning and intuitive for customers.
Having met our challenge, we then aided Ylang Ylang in getting their store set up, from importing products to the BigCommerce backend, to enabling  shipping and tax rules.
