A Conversation of the Likelihood of Twitter in An Apocalyptic Situation

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Have you ever considered the conditions in which you might find yourself should a catastrophe of epic magnitudes occur? We here at Border7 have. This line of thought, stems from the most notable of the end-of-days plays / radio broadcasts / movies : War of the Worlds. But this most recent iteration is, as with  everything else that is so richly avant-garde these days, online, and in this case on Twitter. In a sense, it isn’t quite a play, or a recitation; it is people actively improving and building upon something old to make something entirely new and awesome. All the Web’s a stage, and these people are playing their parts. I highly recommend you check this out.

But I digress, don’t I?

Our next avenue of thought led us to wondering just how much of our infrastructure would last in such an event; just how far would the extent be not just to our ways of communication (which we agreed is the first to go out), but how it would affect our daily routines, our functions, indeed our consciousness. How many devices could you go without and still remain you?

Calling all Movie Buffs

Friday, October 24th, 2008

We are currently finishing up alpha testing for a new website we’re developing. Its a pet project we’re hoping becomes big. The idea is pretty simple, movies are currently rated on letter grading system. However, you don’t really know the criteria behind the grade of the movie. That is where Me Love Movies comes in. Instead of rating the movie on a whole, we give you the opportunity to rate movies on a sub level. A movie is not a B+ movie, it is a B+ Comedy and A- Romance. Its an interesting concept that we’ve built and are slowly developing the concept behind it. Its really great because its all user generated content. However, in the beginning it requires users to go through and begin rating those movies. If you would like to partake in the Closed Beta, email me at amy@border7.com after you’ve signed up and I’ll send you the details and activate your account.

We made a promotional video. Its pretty hilarious. Take a look:

I Can Sleep When I’m Dead

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

In high school, I lived by the credo “I can sleep when I’m dead.” Somehow, I truly managed to not sleep for days at a time (possibly even a few weeks). I would be at school by 7am, get out at 5pm and then work from 6 to Midnight. Fortunately, I had a really easy job at a four dollar movie theatre - it allowed me the opportunity to do my homework for my AP classes. I had a 3.6+ GPA and was promoted to Chief of Staff at work. I also had time to spend with friends - watching movies, going to the beach, hanging out in general. Clearly I was doing something right. The only issue was, I was ALWAYS tired. I’m pretty certain I slept in some of my classes. My first few years of college were exactly the same. Its only now that I realized that my body requires to function and am scheduling in time for sleep (pathetic I know).

Anyway, Border7 LOVES the comic “Least I Could Do” and this comic is what made me realize that we should spread the message: SLEEP IS GOOD FOR YOU.

Border7 Website Launch

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Our to-do list at the beginning of the year  was small, but that was because we knew the amount of time needed to complete each task. Our goals were published on the blog back at the beginning of the year and I’m excited to be able to do this.

  • Finally finish our website! Granted, working for clients is a lot better than getting our site done, but eventually our own site would be nice to have.
  • Redesign and FINALIZE the site plan. We keep coming up with new ideas which postpone its completion.
  • Come up with a few offerings beyond web & graphic design

It feels awesome to have all our goals completed. The first goal took the longest but it was the most fun. Right now, we have so many little quirks on the website that it feels very much like us. There is amazing artwork, we have informative content, and we also have a guitar hero playing Oog hidden within. There are so many little details to the website that we are just excited about. We still have a few more things that we’ll be doing in the next month to complete it, but the fact that we can take down the under construction splash page down.

What are your favorite parts?

Helping A Great Cause - Cookies for Kid’s Cancer

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Cookies for Kids CancerOver the past few months we’ve been helping an organization by the name of Cookies for Kid’s Cancer. We have been helping them out with setting up an online presence. We just recently finished setting up a blog for them that includes tips for running a successful bake sale, a few shared personal stories, and numerous other things.

The Cookies team has been amazing to work with and they have a valid cause. The organization was founded by a mom dealing with her child having cancer. I never knew that Pediatric Cancer was the leading cause of Children’s Death by disease until we started working with them. When we were posting the text for the “Kids who inspire us,” we were nearly brought to tears.

We donate our time to helping their cause and will be holding a bake sale in the coming months. Please do what you can to help this cause.

The busy-ness that is Border7

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

We’ve been really busy at the office and haven’t had time to provide quality content on our Blog. I’m really sorry about that. After this week we will have some time to devote to the blog so bear with us as we move forward.

We’ve finished about 4 client projects in the past week. Signed on 2 more, and our own website is almost done (just 2 more things need to be completed). Later this week we’re going to be announcing something for one of our side projects.

As you can see, we truly have been busy. I apologize again for not keeping you guys in the loop. In other news, have you noticed how busy-ness is like business? Business is busy. Get it? Yes, I’m a dork and come up with lame jokes but I thought it was amusing nonetheless. Talk to you soon.
